Writing Update #1
My first manuscript, in the drafting phase as of right now, is a young adult fantasy story focused on the princes of fairy tales. At least, it started that way. In short, the story has turned toward a brotherly/best-friend premise featuring loyalty, trust, and believing in one's self.
The setting for this story is a world of it's own with elements of Celtic, Roman, and Nordic influences. If set in our world, the year would be 700 AD on an island nation similar to that of Ireland and Scotland.
The main theme circles around our protagonist, Terrance, who is struggling with the idea of being a leader. As he is a very closed-off introvert with extreme social anxiety, he fails to see how someone like him can become the king of an entire nation. With the help of his four brothers and best friend and mentor, Gideon, he learns to accept his role along with his quirks to become the leader he is meant to be.
Thus far, the story has gone through many bumps, as I tend to over-write and over-plot. I am in the final act, the last quarter, and yet, there is so much more to write. And... at 170,000 words, I am sure this is two or three books trying to be one. I decided then to just keep writing and ignore the word count until I have found the conclusion. I know there is plenty that will be removed, rewritten, and reorganized. And as I am an editor at heart, I am itching to start the editing phase, but I have to finish the main writing first.
Also, I have a beautiful artist friend who is doing some character art for me, so stay tuned for that. She is quite the talented one.
So, that is what I have right now. Let me know if you have any questions about the story, my writing process, or anything else I have not touched on. And as usual, thank you for reading my rambling. Take care!
